Books Etc was established nearly 50 years ago as a
street stall in Central Port Elizabeth. The idea was
to sell books that were donated by members of the
public with the proceeds going to The Children’s Feeding
Trust (formerly the Port Elizabeth School Feeding
Scheme).
Over the years, as a result of generous donations, many rare and valuable books – collectors’ items – have accrued.
These books are listed here on our website set up for the purpose of showcasing the rare and collectable editions and are available for sale.
Besides the categories of General Fiction and Non-Fiction (many of which are first editions) we are fortunate enough to be able to offer the following rare Africana books:
South African first editions; South African political books;
South African botanical books; Rhodesiana; Afrikaans books; Autographed Africana, and General Africana.
Besides the collectable books offered here, we also have a bookshop now based in the Walmer Town Hall which is manned by around 60 volunteers, some of whom have helped us since its inception. The shop is open on Mondays to Fridays from 10h00 – 16h00 and on Saturdays from 09h00 to 12h00 and the duty roster of volunteers is managed by the office staff of the Children’s Feeding Trust. A committee, all volunteers, gets together once a week to sort and identify any collectable books, especially Africana and to price all incoming stock.
Our reputation as a welcoming, relaxed
and friendly haven for lovers of books and book browsers
has grown and we enjoy wide support. Please visit
us in Port Elizabeth and see for yourself.
Please browse through our website and feel free to contact us should you have any questions regarding our rare and collectable books. Or buy a rare book and help feed a child.
Books Etc is an initiative of The Children's
Feeding Trust in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
